Terms of Service
The short agreement.
These terms cover using the VerseRoots app and its subscription. The 66-page study guide and printable 365-day plan are sold as separate products with their own fulfillment terms from the store. We have kept the legalese to a minimum. If something is unclear, email legal@verseroots.com and we will answer in plain language.
The service
VerseRoots is a Bible study Progressive Web App: a 365-day devotional plan, flashcards, quizzes, and a private journal. You get access when you purchase our Bible Study Guide via Shopify. The guide is yours to keep; the app subscription is described below.
We may update, improve, or retire individual features as the product grows. If we retire something you rely on, we will give reasonable advance notice.
Your account
You must be at least 13 years old to use VerseRoots (see our Privacy Policy). You are responsible for keeping your password private and for activity on your account. If you notice unauthorized access, email legal@verseroots.com and we will help secure it.
Subscription and billing
VerseRoots is sold as an auto-renewing subscription with two plans:
- Monthly — $19.98 per month, with a 30-day free trial when you first sign up. Your card is not charged until the trial ends.
- Yearly — $149 per year (save $90 compared to paying monthly). No trial on the yearly plan, because the monthly trial already covered the first 30 days.
Billing is handled by Shopify (via Recharge). Your card details never touch our servers. We only receive your subscription state — plan, trial end date, next charge date, and whether you have canceled.
Auto-renewal. Unless you cancel, your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price. We will send a reminder email before your trial ends and before each yearly renewal.
Canceling is easy
You can cancel anytime from Settings → Subscription inside the app, in two taps or fewer, with no phone call and no retention script. This is our standing promise and it complies with state auto-renewal laws, including the California Automatic Renewal Law (California Business and Professions Code §17602) and New York General Business Law §527-a.
Specifically:
- Canceling is at least as easy as signing up.
- The cancel button is a normal, visible button — not hidden in a menu, not disguised as a link.
- We may offer a pause or a plan switch once during cancellation. We will not re-offer, re-loop, or interrupt you with modals. No dark patterns.
- After you confirm, we send a cancellation confirmation email within 60 seconds. Your access continues through the paid-up date shown in the app (your
access_untildate). No further charges will be made.
If you canceled but the confirmation email never arrived, email legal@verseroots.com and we will sort it out.
Refunds
Refunds follow Shopify’s standard refund policy for digital subscriptions. In general, if you cancel during your free trial you are never charged. If you cancel a paid month or year, you keep access through the end of the period you already paid for, and your subscription stops at the date shown in the app. For refund requests outside this window, contact legal@verseroots.com. We review each request in good faith.
Acceptable use
When you use VerseRoots, please:
- Do not reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract our source code.
- Do not scrape the app or its content with bots, headless browsers, or automated tools.
- Do not share your account or resell access.
- Do not impersonate another person or sign up with someone else’s email.
- Do not use the leaderboard, display name, or any other user-visible field to post harassment, slurs, or spam.
If an account violates these rules, we may pause or terminate it. When we can, we will tell you what went wrong and give you a chance to correct it first.
Content ownership
The devotional reflections, scripture commentary, flashcard decks, quizzes, illustrations, and visual design in VerseRoots are © VerseRoots and its content authors. You are welcome to read, listen, and study; you are not licensed to copy, redistribute, or build derivative products.
Your journal entries remain yours. You keep the copyright in anything you write. We store your entries only to show them back to you inside your account and to include them in exports you request. We do not use journal text to train models and we do not share it with third parties.
Public-domain scripture translations (BSB, WEB, KJV) are used under their respective public licenses.
Theological scope
VerseRoots is written from a Protestant-mainstream perspective — readable to Baptist, Methodist, non-denominational evangelical, and casual Catholic readers without denominational polemics. Content is written by a human author, not generated by AI.
VerseRoots is a study tool, not spiritual counsel. It is not a replacement for a pastor, counselor, or local church community. If you are working through something heavy, please reach out to a trusted pastor, counselor, or mental-health professional in your area.
Disclaimer of warranties
VerseRoots is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular feature will always be available.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, VerseRoots and its affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lack of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be handled in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If you live outside the United States, nothing in this section removes consumer-protection rights you are entitled to under the law of your home country.
Changes to these terms
If we make a material change to these terms, we will email the address on your account at least 30 days before the change takes effect and post a notice in the app. Continuing to use VerseRoots after the effective date means you accept the revised terms. If you do not, you can cancel anytime (see above) and your access continues through the paid-up date.
